Full Coverage AND Cheap Auto Insurance

Anyone that has to drive in America knows full well how expensive it can be. From rising fuel costs to an ever competitive insurance industry to rising rates on financing your vehicle, it can lead you to wonder, is all this cost even worth it? If you need to get from place A to place B by a vehicle on a regular basis then the answer is yes, you have to pay for the privilege. But there are ways that you can cut those costs down, and one of those ways is through your auto insurance. Many people however just think they have to take the first quote they get if they want the best coverage with the best company. This just isn’t the case. Here we will discuss what kinds of auto insurance are available, and how to get cheaper quotes and still get the coverage you need.

The best way to get the cheapest auto insurance of course is to just get a policy with the minimum requirements for your state. The older your vehicle and the better your driving record the better your chances of lowering your quotes this way. But if you still need more peace of mind on the road, you can get all of the coverage you need without paying through the nose.

Liability insurance is your most basic form of coverage, and this coverage is required by law in every state. This insurance will cover the costs of losses of other parties in the event you are in an accident for which you are found to be at fault. This is why this insurance is mandatory, because legally you are required to protect other drivers on the road, as much as you are required to protect yourself.

If you can only afford minimum coverage, this may be your best way to go with just purchasing liability. However because liability doesn’t cover all costs, and won’t cover any of your own in the event of an accident, you may also want to consider collision and comprehensive coverage.

If you are in an accident that is not your fault, the other party’s liability insurance will cover your costs. But when it is your fault, collision insurance is what will protect you from financial loss. Not everybody needs collision insurance, but if your car is financed, or is a newer car with high value, you will find collision insurance to be beneficial in the event of an accident.

How to overcome these costs and still get the coverage you need will come into play when you factor in discounts and deductibles. When you are shopping around for quotes, don’t be afraid to ask your potential provider for possible discounts. If you have a good driving record and/or have taken some driver’s training courses, you could be eligible to save on your premiums. As well, adding deductibles to those other types of coverage such as comprehensive and collision will go a long way towards saving you on car insurance premiums.

At the end of the day, many people do not realize that they are more in control of their auto insurance quotes than they think. The best way to lower your auto insurance quotes is to know what you need, and add deductibles to those types of coverage that you may need, but aren’t sure. As well, you can see incredible discounts on auto insurance quotes if you do some homework ahead of time, and shop around. Settling with the first quote on auto insurance will not always save you money!

Security management needs to evolve to protect business, government, and individuals from growing cyber threats. This Paper outlines challenges facing security executives and teams and uses an "air traffic control system" analogy to show how advanced security management systems can deliver better security by providing a single point of visibility and coordination for physical, virtual, and cloud assets. Solutions are presented where business processes, policy, controls, and data work by common consent to achieve the vision of an air traffic control system for information security.

Apple sued over its use of 'iBook'

A New York book publisher has filed a lawsuit against Apple claiming that its use of the term "iBook" violates the publisher's trademark — the second trademark infringement suit filed against the tech giant in less than a week.

Colby's suit acknowledges that Apple has a trademark for "iBook" related to its use on the personal computer, the Mac, sold from 1999 to 2006. Nevertheless, Apple did not begin to use the term to describe an electronic book or method for delivering electronic books until 2010.

"Apple's use of the mark 'iBooks' to denote the electronic library that can be accessed via its iPad tablet computer and its iPhone is likely to overwhelm the goodwill of plaintiffs' 'ibooks' and 'ipicturebooks' marks and render them virtually worthless," the lawsuit states.

Another USPTO search reveals an Apple filing for iBook in 2010 that describes "software for reading electronic publications on digital electronic devices".

The lawsuit comes on the heels of last week's lawsuit by an Arizona company that accuses Apple of infringing its "iCloud" trademark. iCloud Communications, a Phoenix-based voice over IP provider, alleges that the name of Apple's recently announced online storage service copies its name and causes confusion over competing products.

Government in cyber fight but can't keep up

Notwithstanding the military's efforts, but, the overall gap appears to be widening, as adversaries and criminals move faster than government and corporations, and technologies just as mobile applications for smart phones proliferate more rapidly than policymakers can respond, officials and analysts said.

* Spin-offs of the malicious code dubbed "agent.btz" used to attack the military's U.S. Central Command in 2008 are for all that roiling U.S. networks today. People inside and outside the U.S. government strongly suspect Russia was behind the attack, which was the most significant known breach of military networks.

* There are serious questions about the security of "cloud computing," even as the U.S. government prepares to embrace that research in a big way for its cost savings.

That's the technique that was used by the Stuxnet worm that snarled Iran's enriched uranium-producing centrifuges last summer, and which many experts say may have been created by the United States or Israel. A mere 12 months later, would-be hackers can gladly find digital tool kits for building Stuxnet-like weapons on the Internet, according to a private-sector expert who requested anonymity.

"We're much better off than we were a few years ago, however we have not kept pace with opponents," said Jim Lewis, a cyber expert with the Center for Strategic and International Studies think tank. "The network is so deeply flawed that it can't be secured."

The private-sector expert who requested anonymity said a top official at a major Internet service provider told him that he knew his network had been infiltrated by elite hackers. He could digitally kick them out - however that would risk provoking a debilitating counter-attack.

The idea behind the before long-to-be-announced Pentagon program for defense contractors is to boost information-sharing with the Defense Department on cyber threats. It as well aims to speed reporting of attacks on firms that make up what the Pentagon calls the Defense Industrial Base.

Ultimately, the new program may lead to agreement to put for the time being some Pentagon contractors behind military-grade network perimeter defenses, just as those that protect the Pentagon's own classified networks.

On another front, the Pentagon's far-out technology arm, the Defense Advanced Innovation Projects Agency, is expected to launch by mid-2012 the National Cyber Range, a kind of replica of the Internet costing an estimated $130 million that would be used to test cutting-edge cyber defense technologies and help train cyber warriors.

Experts say that one of the toughest challenges of cyber defense is, oddly, definitions. What constitutes "cyber"? Computers and digital networks, undoubtedly. However how about digitized pictures or video streams from a pilotless Predator drone flying over Pakistan?

Offensive actions against foreign systems would require White House authorization. However the Pentagon does not need special approval to do the kind of cyber surveillance work that can identify vulnerabilities in foreign networks, a U.S. official told Reuters, speaking on condition of anonymity.

That includes leaving hidden digital "beacons" inside adversaries' networks that could be used to pinpoint future targets. The beacons can phone home to tell U.S. military computers that they are however operational, the official said.

Even as such policy debates rage, the technological landscape is being remade, seemingly by the month, posing new challenges - and opportunities. Tens of thousands of mobile applications for smartphones and tablet computers represent new vectors for hacks and attacks.

Meanwhile, the U.S. federal government is planning to move in a big way into "cloud computing," in which off-site providers offer network and storage resources accessible remotely from a variety of computing platforms.

Potential cost savings are significant. Handled correctly, computing clouds could offer added security, specialists say. Nevertheless there are as well risks.

A study released in April by CA Technologies and the Michigan-based Ponemon Institute contained alarming findings. Based on a survey of 103 U.S. and 24 European cloud computing providers, it found that a majority did not view security of their services as a competitive advantage, and believed that security was their clients' responsibility, not theirs.

Lynn told Reuters that "cloud computing has the potential to offer greater capability at equal or lesser costs." He added: "I want to make sure we are taking full advantage of these advanced technologies."

The Pentagon is preparing a cloud computing strategy, which it expects to complete by the end of the summer, a U.S. defense official told Reuters.

Schmidt, the White House coordinator, said as many as 170 security controls are being built into government cloud computing projects from the start. "It's not deploying something and securing it later. We're setting the requirements in the beginning."

So how safe are the computer networks of the United States, which like as not more than any nation relies on them for banking, electric power and other basics of modern civilization?

In May 1998, at that time-President Clinton signed Presidential Decision Directive 63, calling for a "reliable, interconnected, and secure" network by 2003, and establishing a national coordinator for protecting critical infrastructure.

A central conundrum is that the Pentagon's National Security Agency, which specializes in electronic eavesdropping, has personnel with the best cyber skills, nevertheless has been until recently taking everything into consideration shut out of protecting domestic networks. That's due to the highly classified nature of the NSA's work, and fears that it will stray into domestic spying.

Last October, the Defense Department and Homeland Security - responsible for protecting civilian U.S. government networks - signed a memorandum to cooperate, with the NSA sharing innovation and the agencies swapping personnel.

Our future is up in the cloud

The more gadgets we accumulate the harder it becomes to remember where we put them and, more often, what we've put on them. I remember I took photos of a dogs' pool party at the weekend on my iPod Touch however the pictures of the last barbecue could be on my Android smartphone or the digital camera - and I may have copied them to my PC or my laptop, or like as not not at all. It is the same story with video, during the songs I buy on Napster and Amazon could be on any number of devices.

Keeping these devices in sync is driving us crazy - not my words, nevertheless those of Steve Jobs when he unveiled Apple's iCloud service last week.

Making insurance cheaper for teen drivers

Insuring a teen driver can be quite problematic for most parents. Not because it’s impossible to do – there are countless insurance companies to get quotes from for a teen driver. The main problem is that insuring such a driver can be really costly. In fact, drivers who are under 25 tend to have the highest rates among all other age groups. So when you’re teen is asking for a ride of his own it’s not only the car itself that will cost you some money – getting insurance for it will also get a good chunk from your family budget. But why do insurance companies charge teens with such high rates in the first place?

As you may guess, insurance companies set their rates according to the risk associated with covering a particular object, and that’s the rule for all types of insurance. In case of car insurance, a great deal of risk depends on the person who is actually behind the wheel of the car being insured. Experience and behavior in traffic have a great deal of influence on the risk of getting into an accident. And statistically, young drivers are not very good with both experience and traffic behavior. They tend to make more mistakes and drive more aggressively than other age groups. Of course, there are good teen driver and horrible car owners who are older, but in general the statistics show that younger car owners have far more accidents and traffic rule violations than all other age groups. And that’s why teens are charged with higher rates. But what can you do to make car insurance a bit cheaper for your teen? There are a couple of effective ways to do that!

First of all make sure that your kid goes to a defensive driving course and gets a certificate. With such a certificate you can always opt for a cut in premiums with most insurance providers. Car insurance companies will reduce the risk of insuring a driver when he or she has a defensive driving course certificate. Besides, it will also reduce the likelihood of your teen getting into an accident by own fault. And that’s all what a parent can ask for, right?

Don’t rush buying a separate policy for your young driver. If you have multiple cars in the household and share one policy for all of them, you will always get a good discount because insurance companies prefer having more cars under the same policy. Of course, including a teen to such a policy will automatically hike your premiums a bit but it will certainly be more advantageous than buying multiple policies for each driver or car.

And the last advice will certainly appeal to most parents. A lot of car insurance providers have special discounts for good students. This means that the student has to have an average of B and higher and to provide proof of this average on a regular basis. And that’s certainly a great way to kill two birds with one stone: make your teen learn better and save some money on insurance for his car.

How Does SafeSync Compare With Dropbox?

We're looking for great account managers, account executives and an awesome research manager/lead developer. Click for details.

Trend Micro’s SafeSync software sounds an awful lot like Dropbox: it automatically syncs the files of your choosing directly from your Windows or Mac computer into the cloud, and lets you access them via mobile devices or share them with others. So what are the differences?

On the upside: or rather than being restricted to your standard Dropbox folder, you can share any folders or files of your choosing. You can rename pictures and other files on your mobile device earlier sharing. Pricing for the service is in Australian dollars, and even allowing for the strong US dollar, works out cheaper per gigabyte. A 20GB one-year subscription is $39.95, 50GB is $59.95, and 100GB is $99.95. Trend uses its own data centres, so you won’t be subject to outages from Amazon a la Dropbox.

On the downside: there’s no free version, so you can’t as a matter of fact try it out and see how you like it. There’s as well not the same range of integration with other apps or as many mobile customers. More to the point, I found the Windows software more intrusive and slower than Dropbox and it crashed occasionally, as so then as demanding a reboot every time it updated.

I dont think i’ll be moving away from dropbox anytime in the near future. There are just so many developers for android that incorperate it to make their apps way more awesome.

If you are applying for a very short term loan such as a payday loan, you need not wait. As soon as you furnish your employment proof, you get the loan without the money lenders checking your credit scores. You can avail up to 1000 pounds on no credit check loans. The loan tenure for such loans can be from a week to a month.

For bigger amounts too, borrowers may approach the money lenders who do not perform credit checks for approving your loan. If you need more money, you may have to place something as collateral. Such loans can be repaid within 10 years. The loan sanctioned is dependent on the value of your assets.

In contrast, for unsecured no credit check loans of bigger repayment term, smaller amount, say 5000 pounds. The tenure is too small such as up to three years. You also pay somewhat more interest on these kinds of loans, as compared to the secured loans. But the plus factor is that these loans are faster than the secured loans.

Solving the Elasticity-in-the-Cloud Equation

One of the lesser appreciated attributes of cloud computing is the need for elasticity. As defined by the National Institute of Standards and Technologies, applications running on a cloud should be able to scale up and down automatically.

Of course, that's one of those IT things in other words a lot easier said than in fact done. Cloud computing service providers can afford to make excess compute capacity available on demand, nevertheless if you're building a private cloud, that's a little more complicated endeavor.

According to Steve Dietch, HP vice president of marketing for cloud solutions, the idea is that the customer would only pay for the capacity-on-demand capability when those systems are in fact used. This approach, says Dietch, gives clients a private and public option to creating an elastic cloud computing model.

As IT organizations get more adept at building private clouds, they will continue to discover that there is more than one way to go about it. Each option will need to be explored in the context of application performance requirements, cost and compliance issues. But all things considered about cloud computing, the most appreciated aspect of this computing model is going to be the flexibility it provides, which can't actually be attained without first solving the elasticity equation.

Mobile VoIP Shows Significant Growth Opportunities

In fact, according to this release, the global fixed line VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) market is set to generate $40 billion a year by 2015. VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) is taking more of the market share and mobile VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) is offering even greater capabilities and opportunities. Data shared by Point Topic shows that the global growth in VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) while 2010 was 12.6 percent and there is plenty of possibility for this to continue throughout the world.

"The growth of VoIP has been bumpy however shows signs of acceleration," said John Bosnell, senior analyst at Point Topic, in a statement. "VoIP has all the hallmarks of a classic substitution commodity. This is where clients look at the service in other words delivered by a new product and decide that it meets, or exceeds, the service they are currently receiving and when it is appropriately priced they will switch from one to the other."

Consumers are increasingly turning to end-to-end IP services over the standard telephone system. The former provides voice services at attractive costs, during also adding other capabilities, including mobile VoIP. This is a significant move in the right direction given the increase in mobility for consumers and business users alike.

"France has been something of a test bed for VoIP. Driven by an active supplier base that has made VoIP available to a large percentage of the population over the last decade, the providers have been rewarded with significant take-up," added Bosnell.

As a result, there has been a rapid shift in France away from the PSTN. By 2010, more than 50 percent of telephony traffic in France was originating on fixed networks and started on a VoIP phone. The increased move to mobile VoIP will furthermore drive this adoption and penetration of VoIP in the global market.

The extended possibility afforded by mobile VoIP is growing, given the demand for Internet telephony and services like Skype. Bosnell highlighted that it is a highly fragmented market in other words generally served by companies who do not or will not report regular statistics and earnings. Skype, but, continues to serve as the market leader in mobile VoIP and does report some of its numbers.

This company alone has 150 million regular callers. The associated revenue, but, is much lower. By the end of 2010, only 9 million users were paying $8 million a month. This has been an ongoing problem for Skype – generating revenue from a service that is as a rule free.

"If Skype continues to grow as it has been and manages to keep its ARPU at the current level at the time it will be generating in the region of $2 billion a year by the start of 2016. If you work hard and manage to marry your internet telephony service with a major mobile device manufacturer and solve any number of technical and regulatory issues, the market could actually explode," concluded Bosnell.

Are You Considering Re-Financing

Article by Jose Galeano Perez

Are You Considering Re-Financing?

Homeowners who are considering re-financing their home may have a wealth of options available to them. However, these same homeowners may find themselves feeling overwhelmed by this wealth of options. This process doesn’t have to be so difficult though. Homeowners can greatly assist themselves in the process by taking a few simple steps. First the homeowner should determine his refinancing goals. Next the homeowner should consult with a re-financing expert and finally the homeowner should be aware that re-financing is not always the best solution.

Determine Your Goals for Re-Financing

The first step in any re-financing process should be for the homeowner to determine his goals and why he is considering re-financing. There are many different answers to this question and none of the answers are necessarily right or wrong. The most important thing is that the homeowner is making a decision which helps him achieve his financial goals. While there are no right or wrong answer to why re-financing should be considered there are, however, certain reasons for re-financing which are very common. These reasons include:

* Reducing monthly mortgage payments* Consolidating existing debts* Reducing the amount of interest paid over the course of the loan* Repaying the loan quicker* Gaining equity quicker

Although the reasons listed above are not the only reason homeowners might consider re-financing, they are some of the most popular reasons. They are included in this article for the purpose of getting the reader thinking. The reader may find their mortgage re-financing strategy fits into one of the above goals or they may have a completely different reason for wanting to re-finance. The reason for wanting to re-finance is not as important as determining this reason. This is because a homeowner, or even a financial advisor, will have a difficult time determining the best re-financing option for a homeowner if he does not know the goals of the homeowner.

Consult with a Re-Financing Expert

Once a homeowner has figured out why they want to re-finance, the homeowner should consider meeting with a re-financing expert to determine the best refinancing strategy. This will likely be a strategy which is financially sound but is also still geared to meeting the needs of the homeowner.

Homeowners who feel as though they are particularly well versed in the subject of re-financing might consider skipping the option of consulting with a re-financing expert. However, this is not recommended because even the most educated homeowner may not be aware of the newest re-financing options being offered by lenders.

While not understanding all the options may not seem like a big deal, it can have a significant impact. Homeowners may not even be aware of mistakes they are making but they may here of friends who re-financed under similar conditions and receive more favorable terms. Hearing these scenarios can be quite disheartening for some homeowners especially if they could have saved considerably more while re-financing.

Consider Not Re-Financing as a Viable Option

Homeowners who are considering re-financing may realize the importance of evaluating a number of different re-financing options to determine which option is best but these same homeowners may not realize they should also carefully consider not re-financing as an option. This is often referred to as the “do nothing” option because it refers to the conditions which will exist if the homeowner does not make a change in their mortgage situation.

For each re-financing option considered, the homeowner should determine the estimated monthly payment, amount of interest paid during the course of the loan, year in which the loan will be fully repaid and the amount of time the homeowner will have to remain in the home to recoup closing costs associated with re-financing. Homeowners should also determine these values for the current mortgage. This can be very helpful for comparison purposes. Homeowners can compare these results and often the best option is quite clear from these numeric calculations. However, if the analysis does not yield a clear cut answer, the homeowner may have to evaluate secondary characteristics to make the best possible decision. http://paydotcom.net/r/12974/andres4/26554466/

Apple sued over use of 'iCloud'

Apple CEO Steve Jobs unveils the iCloud storage system at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco on June 6. Photo: David Paul Morris/Bloomberg

Apple has been sued by US-based iCloud Communications for its use of the name iCloud for its new cloud-based file storage services.

The lawsuit, filed last week in an Arizona US District Court, argues that Apple's use of iCloud is trademark infringement on the name of iCloud, a VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) and cloud services company founded in the US state of Phoenix in 2005.

Apple has so far used the iCloud name to identify its services for consumers looking to store music, photos, video, emails and other types of data in remote servers that they access over the web - or from the cloud, as the tech industry calls it.

The company as well says in its suit that Apple knew that iCloud Communications held the trademark on the iCloud name, nevertheless used it in any case and along these lines, has hurt its use of the name.

"Due to the worldwide media coverage given to and generated by Apple's announcement of its 'iCloud' services and the ensuing saturation advertising campaign pursued by Apple, the media and the general public have quickly come to associate the mark 'iCloud' with Apple, or rather than iCloud Communications," the internet calling firm said in its complaint. "Then Apple elected to adopt 'iCloud' for its cloud computing telecommunications and data services, Apple was aware of or was willfully blind to iCloud Communications' use of and rights in the iCloud Marks."

Apple officials were unavailable for comment. Nevertheless, as iCloud argues in its suit, troubles over trademark infringement for Apple are nothing new when it comes to product names.

"Even though Apple aggressively protects its trademark rights, Apple has a long and then known history of knowingly and willfully treading on the trademark rights of others - a history which began as early as the 1970s when Apple was first sued for trademark infringement by the Beatles record label, Apple Corp.," iCloud says in its suit.

The complaint as well points out that Apple's use of the names Macintosh computer, Mighty Mouse, iPhone and iAd were each met with trademark infringement suits from other companies who've used those respective names for products of their own.

Apple's use of the iCloud name has already led to a lot of confusion for iCloud Communications, which is hurting its business, the company said in its suit.

"Actually, iCloud Communications has received numerous inquiries from both existing and prospective clients regarding whether it is now owned or affiliated with Apple," iCloud said in the court document. "The loss of and damage to the goodwill in the iCloud Marks, the damage to iCloud Communication's reputation and confusion among consumers is likely to continue - and, in point of fact, intensify - unless Apple is enjoined from its use of the mark 'iCloud.'"

The suit calls for Apple to "deliver for destruction all labels, signs, prints, insignia, letterhead, brochures, business cards, invoices and any other written or recorded material or advertisements in its possession or control containing the iCloud name," as so then as unspecified payment for damages and any profits Apple makes from its iCloud offerings.

5:49am A court in south China jailes three people for stealing the design to Apple's iPad 2 tablet computer and using it to manufacture counterfeits, say reports.

Dial plans are essential for any Cisco Unified Communications deployment. Whether you are implementing single-site or multisite deployments, having a thorough understanding of dial plans and the knowledge of how to implement them on Cisco IOS gateways is essential for any engineer who designs and implements a Cisco Unified Communications network. This chapter describes the characteristics of a dial plan and associated elements.

To integrate VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) networks into existing voice networks, you should have the skills and knowledge to implement call routing and design an appropriate numbering plan. A scalable numbering plan establishes the baseline for a comprehensive, scalable, and logical dial plan.

This section describes call-routing principles, discusses attributes of numbering plans for voice networks, addresses the challenges of designing these plans, and identifies methods of implementing numbering plans.

A numbering plan is a numbering scheme used in telecommunications to allocate telephone number ranges to countries, regions, areas, and exchanges, and to nonfixed telephone networks just as mobile phone networks. A numbering plan defines rules for assigning numbers to a device.

Different regions of the globe have different numbering plans. Nevertheless, all of these national numbering plans must adhere to the international E.164 standard. As an illustration, the E.164 standard stipulates than no phone number can be longer than 15 digits.

ANI II digits are two-digit pairs sent with an originating telephone number as part of the signaling that takes place while the setup phase of a call. These digits identify the type of originating station.

CICs are used to route and bill calls in the PSTN. CICs are four-digit codes in the format XXXX, where X is any digit from 0 through 9. There are separate CIC pools for different feature groups, just as line-side and trunk-side access.

A seven-digit number defines a local call. Some larger areas use ten-digit numbers instead of seven-digit numbers to define local calls. Notice that the first digit is in the range 2 through 9, during the remaining digits can be any number in the range of 0 through 9.

The European Telecommunications Office Administrative Council supervises the telecommunications work of the European Radiocommunications Office. This supervision includes the establishment, detailing, and change of ETNS conventions and the designation of European Service Identification for new ETNS services.

Four ETNS services are now available: Public Service Application, Customer Service Application, Corporate Networks, and Personal Numbering. An ESI code is designated for each ETNS service. The one-digit code follows the European Country Code 388 and European Service Code 3, as shown in Table 4-3.

E.164, as illustrated in Figure 4-3, is an international numbering plan for public telephone systems in which each assigned number contains a one-, two-, or three-digit country code in other words followed by a national destination code and at the time by a subscriber number. An E.164 number can have as many as 15 digits. The ITU originally developed the E.164 plan.

In the E.164 plan, each address is in a class by itself worldwide. With as many as 15 digits possible in a number, there are 100 trillion possible E.164 phone numbers. This makes it possible, in theory, to direct-dial from any conventional phone set to any other conventional phone set in the world by dialing no more than 15 single digits.

Most telephone numbers belong to the E.164 numbering plan, even though this does not include internal private automatic branch exchange extensions.

Scalable telephony networks require so then-designed, hierarchical telephone numbering plans. A hierarchical design has these five advantages:

A dial plan can be designed so that all extensions within the system are reached in a uniform way. In other words, a fixed quantity of digits is used to reach a given extension from any on-net origination point. Uniform dialing is desirable because of its simplicity. A user does not have to remember different ways to dial a number when calling from various on-net locations.

In a non-overlapping numbering plan, all extensions can be addressed using the same number of digits, making the call routing simple and making the network easily manageable. The same number length is used to route the call to an internal user and a remote user.

The site-code dialing solution of the overlap issue in numbering plans is useful in real life, as it allows a decentralized approach to the numbering effort. Even various departments within an organization can manage their own addressing space, and the site codes can interconnect them into a manageable unified communications network. Site code dialing does not require a careful design from the beginning and can be implemented as the enterprise grows.

Site-code dialing has been designed to allow calls between the enterprise locations. Each site has a trunk connection to the PSTN, with the PSTN DID range provided by the telephone company operator. Sites A and B have DID ranges that allow public addressing of each internal extension. Site C has a single DID number with an interactive voice response solution that prompts the callers for the number of the internal extension for forwarding inbound calls to the intended callee. The DID range of Site D covers some internal extensions and must be combined with an IVR to provide inbound connectivity to others.

Call routing to local endpoints is achieved automatically, because the registering endpoints have virtual dial peers that are associated with them. The dial peers ensure that calls are routed to the registered phones based on their directory numbers.

Figure 4-10 shows the enterprise has one large site with 7000 users and several smaller sites with less than 700 users each. The codes for all sites are two-digit numbers. The internal extensions in the large site are four digits long, during the extensions in the smaller sites are three digits long. To implement the dial plan, VoIP dial peers are configured with destination patterns that match seven-digit numbers in the large site and six-digit numbers in the remaining sites, starting with the intersite prefix 8.

Gateways provide a mapping between the DID and the internal number ranges. For instance, the PSTN DID range 200-555-3xxx can be easily converted to 1xxx and back when calls traverse the gateway. Complex mapping formulas are too complex to implement and should be avoided.

Inbound and outbound call legs. The gateway negotiates VoIP parameters with preceding and straightway gateways earlier a call is forwarded.

The entries that define where to forward calls are the dial peers. All dial peers at the same time build the dial plan, which is equivalent to the IP routing table. The dial peers are static in nature.

Hop-by-hop call routing builds on the principle of call legs. Earlier a call-routing decision is made, the gateway must identify the inbound dial peer and process its parameters. This process might involve VoIP parameter negotiation.

Figure 4-11 illustrates a scenario with two locations that are connected to an IP WAN and PSTN. When the call goes through the PSTN, its numbers have to be manipulated so that they are reachable within the PSTN. If not, the PSTN switches will not recognize the called number, and the call will fail.

The Wii U controller has all of the gyroscopic

The Wii U controller has all of the gyroscopic and accelerometer capabilities of the Wii Remote, nevertheless Nintendo has abandoned the one-handed design that helped make Wii such a success. The new controller has a large 6.2-inch resistive touchscreen on it, front and rear cameras, a microphone, speakers, and vibration. Those features may be cool to casual gamers, yet hardcore gamers will be happy that the Wii U controller is as well very similar to the PS3 and Xbox controllers. It has two shoulder buttons, two trigger buttons, a directional pad, two control sticks, four face buttons, a power button, a home menu button, and start/select. If you're wondering why it has so many buttons, Nintendo has made it clear: it wants hardcore game series like Assassin's Creed and Bioshock on its system right alongside Wii Sports and Super Mario Bros.

Other new ways to combine the screen of the controller with the TV were shown nevertheless not demonstrated. These include using it as a gun sight, setting the controller on a table and using it as a multiplayer board game, and setting the touchscreen on the ground and using it as a virtual tee and ball for a game of golf. You can even make video calls with it, says Nintendo. The demos were highly impressive, yet we on the whole have a lot of questions.

One Wii U controller, many Wii RemotesSatoru Iwata has confirmed our early guess that the Wii U only supports one touchscreen controller, nevertheless he has not elaborated as to why this is the case, instead hinting that the high cost of the controller or limits to its streaming research could be to blame. However it be, the Wii U will come with a single controller and Nintendo currently has no plans to sell extra controllers separately. Having said that, the Wii U is not a game system for the lonely. It is fully compatible with Wii controllers and the Wii Balance Board, supporting as many as four Wii Remotes should the contingency arise to the Wii U controller. That makes Wii U the first system that can technically support five players at a time.

The law that will make AT&T pay almost $1 billion to consumers

Class-action attorneys charged that AT&T Mobility improperly collected millions of dollars in taxes from nearly 2,000 state or territorial areas. All this was contrary to the Internet Tax Freedom Act, the lawyers contended. Nevertheless as is so often the case, the matter never went to trial. Instead, the parties settled.

Congress first enacted the Internet Tax Freedom Act in 1998. The key to the legislation is found in its opening provisions:

In other words, no new taxes on 'Net usage. Congress renewed the bill in 2001 and 2004, and reenacted it but again in 2007. The latest iteration of the law extends the moratorium until November 1, 2014. And it creates a more detailed version of "Internet access," that would evidently extend to cable and DSL.

The legislation defines such access as "a service that enables users to connect to the Internet to access content, information, or other services offered over the Internet." And it covers features associated with that definition, including "a homepage, electronic mail and instant messaging, video clips, and personal electronic storage capacity, that are provided independently or not packaged with Internet access."

But the ITFA exactly excludes other features. For instance, it does not include "voice, audio or video programming, or other products and services" "that utilize Internet protocol or any successor protocol and for which there is a charge"—that is, VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) and IPTV services like AT&T's U-Verse.

"Significantly, AT&T Mobility has agreed to pay the money owed up front, even if a taxing jurisdiction issues future tax credits to AT&T Mobility in lieu of a refund of monies sought on a refund claim for Internet Taxes," the settlement summary notes.
